Eight-year-old tech

Recently I inherited an old laptop that a friend had no use for. I fired it up and had a look around, 86Mb of Ram and 9 Gig Hard Disk, and ancient 266Mz processor.

My first reaction was that it’ll never be up to doing anything that’d be at all useful to me. But I persevered, upgraded the OS to Windows 2000, installed Firefox and couple of other programs, added a wireless USB dongle and hey presto! A great liitle machine for checking emails, surfing the web and even streaming audio through iTunes.

It seems that in computer terms 8 years really isn’t all that long.
