UXBootcamp: Cognitive Psychology

Last weekend saw me running the latest UXBootcamp. Cognitive Psychology & UX.

When Leisa Riechart first asked me to do I have to admit it made me a little nervous. There is so much psychology theory and application isn’t as easy as it may seem.

I based the 2 day workshop around three themes and made a worksheet for each (Download the worksheets they probably won’t make much sense without the theory matching game):

1. Articles and blogs: understanding perception & how the brain works
2. Forms: memory and attention making
3. Product pages: emotion & cognitive bias aka ‘the dark arts’

Throughout I had a variety of slides to explain theories and we discussed the challenges of application and straight away got sketching to apply.

I also created a matching game which explains each example we discussed.

I’ve also put together a big list of links that talk about theory and application as well as a link to all the RSS feeds that I read to keep me up to date.
